The city wants to purchase 20 more red light cameras and some would say with good reason (http://tinyurl.com/cyv48e). According to the DOT’s red light operations chief the city has only operated and owned the cameras for the last few months. Prior to that the cameras were actually operated by a private contractor, which seems a bit sketchy to put that kind of power in to the hands of a contractor. I’m researching to see if they had incentive to loosen the parameters of what is considered “crossing a red light” to generate commissions for themselves, which would also mean increased revenues for the city.
More on this investigation in the coming days.
